Interesting in getting orthotics?

Fiskco’s chiropractors (Dr. Fiske, Dr. Baas, Dr. Atwal, and Dr. Cukic) are all able to prescribe and distribute custom orthotics in-house. Fiskco deals with Atlas Orthotics company, a high-quality custom orthotics company. Custom orthotics means they are created/molded to your feet and built based on your individual needs.

How would benefits from Orthotics?

There are various conditions that could benefit from having orthotics, when in doubt please contact your healthcare provider.

Examples of conditions orthotics can help with:

  • Arthritis in toes, ankles, knees, hips
  • Low back pain
  • Flat feet
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Morton’s Neuroma
  • Heel spurs
  • Bunions
  • Hammertoe
  • High arches
  • Diabetes

What does the orthotic appointment involve?

You can book an orthotic appointment through our front desk admin or on Fiskco’s online booking site

  • A detailed history is performed by the chiropractor. This is done to get a better idea of why the orthotics are needed and certain modifications to the orthotics that will benefit the patient.
  • A Physical Assessment is performed. This tests range of motion of various joints – lack of movement, hypermobility, areas of discomfort etc.
  • A Biomechanical Assessment is performed. This is a functional assessment of how well your joints are moving.
  • A Gait Analysis is performed. This is where the way you walk is observed.
  • Then a cast/mold of your feet is made. This is used to build your custom orthotics.

What is the cost of orthotics?

The cost of the orthotics will be $475.00 plus the cost of the appointment which is $60.00. This will be payable on the day of your appointment.

This means, EVEN IF YOU ARE COVERED BY EXTENDED HEALTH, you will have to cover the cost of your orthotic appointment. Once your orthotics are delivered to Fiskco, you will be given all the necessary documents to send to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Does your extended health benefits cover the cost of orthotics?

If you have coverage for orthotics, you should be able to send all of the documents given to you to get a reimbursement for the cost of the orthotics. We are unable to direct bill extended health companies for the cost of orthotics.

Fiskco is unable to determine if you have coverage or how much coverage you have. That information is determined by contacting your insurance company directly.

Do I need a prescription before your appointment?

Not necessarily, Chiropractors can prescribe orthotics. Always check with YOUR insurance company before your appointment to make sure they accept chiropractors as prescribing orthotics.

Some companies do NOT accept orthotic prescriptions from chiropractors. In that case, you will need to obtain a prescription from one of the following eligible health care professionals:

  • Medical Doctor M.D.
  • Podiatrist P.D.M.
  • Chiropodist D. Ch.

How long does it take to get your orthotics back?

It will take approximately 2 weeks after your casting date to receive your orthotics. When they are delivered to Fiskco, we will call you for a fitting appointment to make sure everything with the orthotics is okay (approx. 10-15 min and no cost for this).

How long can custom orthotics last?

Custom orthotics can last anywhere from 3-8 years depending on how long you are wearing them each day/how much they are used

In comparison to store-bought orthotics, which can last 6-8 months.

Other possible information needed for your insurance company: 

Extended health companies will ask for a Biomechanics Assessment, Gait & Biomechanical exam, and the type of manufacture. This will be provided when you pick up your orthotics.
